Introducing our CardEd Android Apps (Free Resource!)

It is with great excitement we bring you CardEd in a brand new format! We have created 4 new Android apps – one for each of CardEd sets 1 – 4. Best of all, the apps are absolutely free, allowing you to trial CardEd and enjoy the many benefits of this great resource.

To access the apps, simply search for CardEd in the Play Store and download versions 1 – 4.  The apps have been designed to be used by an adult with a child/(ren) or class as guidance is needed.  The selection of cards and activities should be discussed and undertaken collaboratively, for CardEd has as its core aims the promotion of language, interaction, and fun.

Once you have downloaded CardEd, on the homescreen, you will find 5 buttons:

  • CardEd introduction – tells you more about our resources and sets out terms of use.
  • CardEd Set 1/2/3/4 – provides all 50 of the cards in each particular set.
  • Show me activities – gives a range of activity suggestions for each of the zones.
  • Connect with us – links you to our website and social media.
  • Get more FREE stuff – direct link to our Dumond Education shop where you will find other free resources.

If you are new to CardEd, we recommend reading the introduction to gain some insight as to the rationale for our resource and how you can utilise it to support learning in various domains.

Having done so, we then suggest you click the ‘Show me activities’ button, wait a moment and see what activity is randomly generated for you.  Read through it and decide with the child/(ren) if it is one they are keen to do.  If not, browse the activities again by clicking the ‘Next Activity’ button in order to look for one everyone is keen to try.  Some sample activities from 3 of the 6 CardEd zones are shown below.

Once a suitable activity has been found, select a card to use in conjunction with that activity by clicking the ‘Show me a card’ button.  As with the activities, you can scroll through until a suitable card is found.

Because the cards and activities are randomly generated, it can be helpful, once you have settled on an activity, to screenshot it in order to refer back to if necessary!  Having paper to hand to make some scratch notes may be useful also.

Although proud of our apps, we do not see them as a substitute for our physical CardEd resources which offer greater scope for comparing and contrasting activities and activities involving more than one card.  However, the convenience of having all the cards accessible whilst out and about is a brilliant benefit.  We also hope teachers, who may not have a budget for resources, will be able to use CardEd to support teaching and learning in schools across the globe.  One little word to the wise, the activities/cards can sometimes take a moment or two to load, so please be patient!

Please don’t hesitate any longer!  Head to the Play Store and enjoy the benefits of CardEd today!
