Remembering D-Day – June 6th 1944

D-Day Anniversary

Today, June 6th, is the anniversary of D-Day. It is a day for remembrance and reflection.
I have put together some resources for teaching children about this momentous day.

  • Learn about preparations for D-Day, the weather delay and read about the landings on History.com
  • Use these images from the Imperial War Museum to further understand the preparations involved in mounting Operation Overlord.
  • I found the graphic below in this Newsround report – D-Day: What is it and why is it important?

  • You may also wish to use this image from HistoryExtra.com – another great source of information on D-Day.

  • ‘Into the Jaws of Death’ is one of the most famous photographs from D-Day. Taken by Robert F. Sargent, it shows troops landing on Omaha Beach.

The brutality of war is clear, yet we still struggle to live harmoniously. Much hatred abounds. It is imperative we rear our children to be ambassadors for peace.

Take care and stay safe all.
