What began as an experiment in a few schools has grown into a much larger movement aimed at cultivating empathy as a beacon of hope in a troubled world. Empathy Lab have created ‘Empathy Day’ to draw public awareness to the importance of empathy.
With research demonstrating reading fiction increases our capacity for empathy, one of the great things about this initiative has been the creation of book lists (Read for Empathy collections). I wanted to share those with you today.
Empathy is often mentioned at school, but does your child know what it means?
Discuss:
-
Have they considered how to be empathetic towards others?

Have they thought about how it makes someone feel when they show empathy?
-
How do they feel when it is shown to them?
-
Are there any barriers to displaying empathy towards others?
-
What might they be?
