Each of the 2 sponsored banners feature 20 prompts. Schools can select one per week to focus on throughout the school year. (Additional posters may be purchased with further prompts for use in later years or if schools would like to use more than one prompt per week).
The prompts may be used as the basis for in-class conversations with teachers modelling the conventions for conversations expected in their classroom and teaching explicit vocabulary related to the topic at hand.
Discussion is a powerful engagement tool with a range of benefits
At the outset, significant teacher input will be required to explore the purpose and benefits of discussions and how to support pupils as they develop the skills to take part. Schools may wish to start small to begin with, rolling ‘Big Chat’ out across a year group or 2 in order to refine practice and expectations.
