7 Days of Categorisation Tasks!

As a follow-up to our post on sorting and categorisation, we thought it helpful to further illustrate how just a few CardEd cards can be used to create a myriad of activities.

Select several CardEd cards

Choose cards specific to the skills you are trying to embed e.g. only select cards with 1 or 2 shapes if children are working on quantities to 2. As children become more adept at sorting, you can have them sort by 2 criteria e.g. find vowel cards with 2 shapes only.

I chose the following cards.

Activity 1: Sort by Colour

Activity 2: Sort by Symbol

Note: Young children do not need to know what the symbol means as this is too abstract for them. They are simply completing a matching exercise.

Activity 3 :Sort by Letter

Activity 4: Sort by Consonant and Vowels

Activity 5: Sort by Number

Activity 6: Sort by Quantity (Number of Shapes)

Activity 7: Sort Using 2 Criteria (Consonant + 4 Shapes)
