Introducing CardEd Set 4!

Dumond Education is pleased to announce the launch of CardEd Set 4!

CardEd Set 4 features the now familiar 6 zones with content as follows:

Colour Zone: The 10 colours featured are black, white, red, yellow, blue, green, purple, pink, brown, and orange.

Symbol Zone: In Set 4, this zone introduces fractions, decimals, and percentages, as well as the = and ≠ symbols.

Letter Zone: Set 4 cards feature common vowel graphemes. A grapheme is the symbol (letter or letters) used to represent a phoneme (sound).

Because many sounds have more than one grapheme, CardEd Set 4 uses colour-coding to indicate those with the same sound.  However, accents differ according to whether they are rhotic or non-rhotic (rhotic relating to the pronunciation of the historical rhotic consonant /r/).  As such, precise classification is challenging.

Non-rhotic accents feature phonemic mergers not present in rhotic ones.  By way of example, these include the father-farther merger.  For this reason, in the case of /or/ and /aw/ sounds, where different accents and dialects influence the sound, they are colour-coded in 2 shades of blue.  This is to represent the link between them for some and to highlight the distinction for others.

Accompanied by our most comprehensive guidance notes to date, CardEd Set 4 can be used to teach the following:

  • Split Digraph with e
  • Split Digraph with r
