It’s week 21 of our 5+5 Activity Guides with suggestions for keeping your primary children active and learning!
As mid-August approaches, schools in many places are looking at safe ways of reopening and debates about masks and distancing are raging. Here in Penang, having had 91 days without a case, we are back on alert after a case was diagnosed on the mainland this week. It is clear we all continue to need to act with an abundance of caution.
Cooperative
Mathematics
With week 21 in mind (and with all numbers on a die adding to 21), here’s a maths investigation you may wish to try with your child/ren – Three Dice
Can your child demonstrate how 21 is a triangular number?
Can your child calculate the first 21 numbers in the sequence?

Separately, a variety of 11 Plus resources and other online revision tools in maths and other subjects (10 minute tests, SATS Practice Papers and other resources, Times Tables Tester and Yearly Checklists) are available from CGP Books.
Geocaching
If you haven’t tried geocaching and aren’t under lockdown, now could be a good time to give it a go and get out and about to enjoy the outdoors.
STEM
Do You Have What it Takes to be a Super STEM Spin Doctor? is an interesting lesson I found on a website I just discovered called potentialplus.org. If your child/ren are gifted in particular areas (not just STEM), this site may be of interest to you. There are activity packs available for purchase but you will also find many free resources on the site. Find out more here.
Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for daily conversation starters and lots of discussion topics. Today’s conversation starter is a slight departure from usual as I challenge you to compose a riddle
Alternatively, parents in the UK and Ireland may wish to share this Lego challenge with your child/ren. Winners receive a year’s supply of Lego!
Poetry
Here’s a fun poem about all of the thing poet Brian Bilston has missed out on due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Can your child create their own calendar poem? They could adopt a similar theme or may wish to write about all the things they hope to accomplish before school returns.
